Legacies Of Faith
I’m back on The Anarchist Bible Study with Josh aka Iowancap for the final of the show. Something I’ve been studying over the past year and tying together personal Bible study, family Bible study, raising my children, and the study of Scott Christensen’s “What About Evil” book is preserving legacies of faith within the family unit.
Not just looking to one’s own children but to generations after that. The classic line of “what we do now – echoes in eternity” is valid. I don’t want to just be an impact to my children I want to impact my children’s children’s children’s children even if they don’t even know my name.
There are specific things I believe we can do to have a last impact on our children that they will positively apply and carry down in their families (Lord willing) and they are grounded on biblical principles of who God is, how He reveals Himself, and what His revealed will for His people are.
Things involving one’s personal walk with God and mirroring our walk with our children. We can use each moment the world gives us to ground it in a biblical worldview. We can teach our children appropriate uses of apologetics, theology, church history; and how God views things like politics, economics, and entertainment. We have active permission to propagandize our children because we love them – and it is not only a Christian duty but everyone does it to their children. The key is proper grounding in objective truth.
This was a really good episode where I pieced together a lot of threads you’ve seen me talk about in various episodes. Lord willing, I pray that it’s helpful to others.
From the YouTube video description:
Patrick from Cave to the Cross Apologetics joined me to talk about how to leave a faith legacy in our children.
-
What are practices we can intentionally put in place to develop our children’s faith?
-
How do we use church history and apologetics in our daily family life?
-
How do we combat the secular worldview our children are exposed to daily?
-
What place does reading good books to our children have?
-
How does our own personal faith come into play?
