Gideon – Courage, Cowardice, and Getting Fleeced

I’m back on The Anarchist Bible Study with Josh aka Iowancap for part 2 of the show. I asked that we go over the story of Gideon because we see a number of different themes in line with the theme of the show. First, we see the consistent nature of God played out in the Old Testament as well as the New Testament and this is something the Reformed understanding does well in. Second, we see the nature of man played out in hierarchal structures of decentralized government. Is there a case to make for anarchism (from human government) in The Bible? Finally, we look at this passage as many sermons either focus on only the good or only the bad or make your navel-gaze at yourself in the context of the story. Always great to open God’s Word with a buddy and discuss: Gideon – Courage, Cowardice, and Getting Fleeced.

From the YouTube video description:

Judges 6-8
Patrick from Cave to the Cross Apologetics joined me today to talk more Judges, and cover three chapters that are often mistreated.
  • How does chronology impact this passage?
  • How does the book of Judges itself combat the idea that they are showing us “anarchy” in a bad way?
  • Is Gideon courageous, wisely cautious, cowardly or all three (and aren’t we all?)
  • Is it always faithless to “leave out a fleece”?
  • What is the Lord doing in limiting his army size?
  • How is Gideon’s life (particularly at the end) a mixed bag?
  • Why is Patrick so obsessed with the book of Judges?
